Where does the name Quidditch come from? - Hogwarts Legacy Guide

The name Quidditch is invented by J.K. Rowling when she was staying in Manchester while writing the rules of the fictional game with her then boyfriend.

However, the name actually comes from an earlier Anglo-Saxon dialect word called cæwd-dych which means mud marsh. This word is attributed to the Quoditch Moor Nature Reserve in Ashwater, Devon, South West, England, United Kingdom.
