Hazlerigg Colliery and Havannah Drift Mine (Disused Railway Stations) (Real Filming Locations)

Photos by Warren Woodhouse. Camera: Nikon D3300 DSLR. Date: 26th February 2016

What’s left of the original tracks used to haul carts and small shunting trains at the former sites of Hazlerigg Colliery and Havannah Drift Mine.

Havannah Nature Reserve was created on the former site of the Hazlerigg Colliery and Havannah Drift Mine, which operated from 1892 to 1964 and 1950 to 1977, respectively. After the mines closed, the land was landscaped and eventually declared a nature reserve in 1998. The reserve is now a Site of Local Conservation Interest and is maintained by Newcastle City Council. In 2015, a housing estate was built on the northern side of the area and named Havannah Park. I’ve decided to take photos of what I believe might have been the original paths of the shunting tracks along with the mine shaft which is now a lake.

Rowley Station (Disused Railway Stations) (Real Filming Locations)

Originally opened as Cold Rowley in Stanley, County Durham, as a stop on the Derwent Railway route, located on the west side of the A68 on what is now the Waskerley Way cycle track which passes through the original station site, it was renamed to Rowley Station on the 1st July 1868, was fully closed on the 6th June 1966. By the 1970s, the station buildings had fallen into disrepair and by 1972, the station buildings were completely dismantled and reassembled at Beamish Museum, not too far from the original site. The reopening at Beamish was opened to the public in 1976.

Mafia: The Old Country Review (Reviews) (Game Reviews)

Review by: Warren Woodhouse

Rating: 6 stars

Review Date & Time: 27th October 2025 at 7:07 pm

A really great storyline and beautifully presented game, with cutscenes that make it feel like a film. The sprawling countrysides and small towns made it feel like you were in the early 19th Century. The game lets it down in various areas; I actually became lost in the towns, it felt like a maze and became very disorienting to navigate, not enough petrol/gas stations to use. The only other thing that lets it down is how slow the game is to heal Enzo even when using cover during fire fights, the knife fight moments are ill-timed… great story, characters, cutscenes and general aesthetics but the game lets it down in other areas. Not the best game of the year but certainly not the worst either.

Games that have Great Replayability

In my experience, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout 4, The Sims (any of them, even the spin-offs like The Urbz - played that multiple times), Rollercoaster Tycoon (number 3 was my favourite) and Black & White, these games are great for playing multiple playthroughs with different play styles. I’m sure there are more but I’ll be here forever typing otherwise, so I’ll leave it there. New Game+ mode offers an extended experience of a game for those who want new unlockables, new story quests that are only available in New Game+, new locations added and more, so sometimes it’s worth checking out. I’ve listed below some games that feature New Game+:

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
  • Horizon: Zero Dawn
  • Horizon: Forbidden West
  • Far Cry 5
  • Far Cry: New Dawn
  • Far Cry 6
  • Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
  • Metro Exodus
  • Assassin’s Creed: Mirage
  • Days Gone
  • Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
